MTV VMAs: Miley Cyrus Uses Her Fame To Send An Important Message

Not only was Miley Cyrus looking fabulous and chic at the 2014 MTV VMAs, but she was also sending an important issue to the wider world.

As you may or may not know, I have seen the affects of youth homelessness on someone close to me. What scares me the most is that the person I know isn't alone. Homelessness is a devastating issue that is omnipresent in our world, and thanks to Miley's touching acceptance speech, the world now knows a little more about it.

This year Miley received the award for the Video Of The Year, and good on her. But to accept her award from Jimmy Fallon was an unfamiliar face; that was, Jesse.

"My name is Jesse and I am accepting this award on behalf of the 1.6 million runaways and homeless youth in the United States who are starving, lost and scared for their lives right now. I know this because I am one of these people," Jesse said. Jesse encouraged fans around the world to visit Miley's Facebook where she is promoting "My Friend's Place", a homeless shelter in Hollywood.

As the camera shifted to Miley during Jesse's speech, it became apparent that she was also passionate about the issue. She appeared to be quite emotional, whilst cheering Jesse on.

I think it's a great thing what Miley did; she used her fame and power to better our world, and improve the lives of those less fortunate. As Jesse mentioned, "the music industry will make over 7 billion dollars this year, and outside these doors are 54,000 human beings who have no place to call home", stressing the need for support to eradicate youth homelessness from society.

To assist those in need head to myfriendsplace.org as Jesse mentioned, or for those situated in Melbourne, Australia consider supporting HomeGround Services at www.homeground.org.au/support-us/donate/.

App of the Month: Smiling Mind!

I'm not one to download many applications on my iPhone. I am however reliant upon lifestyle and fitness applications that motivate me to live a positive life. I recently found the app Smiling Mind, and upon using it thought you guys would love it as much as I do!

Smiling Mind is a meditation application targeted at young people. The sole aim of the program is to inspire balance and positivity in the youth of today and bring a sense of calmness to the busy lives which many of us live. Not only can you take some time from your chaotic schedule to relax and reflect, but you can do so for no charge.

I tried it for myself yesterday with the first meditation session called "Body Scan". I found it quite effective as it enabled me to unwind and de-stress. Prior to each session you complete a form about how you are feeling. Then, post- meditation you complete the same form and compare your results. I found I felt more "energised" and "connected" following the "Body Scan", so much so that I was ready to conquer the pile of homework that awaited me.

If you are looking for some time away from the hectic nature of life, I strongly recommend this free application available in the App Store. I also suggest that if you download the program and feel strongly about the importance of meditation in society, you should consider donating to Smiling Mind which solely relies on donations to operate. Palo Alto

Based on a series of short stories by the one and only James Franco, Palo Alto is my latest favourite film. Directed by brilliant Gia Coppola who has a genetic predisposition to directing a good film, Palo Alto is definitely worth your time.

The film follows the lives of young people, mainly focusing on the troubled lives of Teddy and April. It delves into the realms of teenage life, and the symptoms that accompany it; heart break, rebelliousness and lacking direction (just to name a few).

Emma Roberts also stars in the film.

If that does not convince you to watch the fantastic flick, then I should probably mention that James Franco plays a high school soccer coach... Needless to say, the film is craftily formed, similar to the take on youth that Sofia Coppola achieves in The Virgin Suicides and The Bling Ring.

Don't forget your popcorn, or to let me know what you thought of the film,

Beauty Essentials

Seeing as I habitually make a designer wish list for clothes and other accessories, I thought it would only be fitting to apply this to the realms of makeup. Therefore, I decided to make a list of what I deem to be the ultimate 'beauty essentials'.

From left to right, in each of the three rows we have:

1. Napoleon Perdis Auto Pilot Pore Minimiser & Mattifier $69- It was Napoleon Perdis who once said, "Not to prime is a crime!" I have purchased this item myself, and have found it beneficial. Not only does it assist in the wear of my foundation, but it also makes my skin feel smooth and healthy! Product and image via napoleonperdis.com.

2. Napoleon Perdis Advanced Mineral Makeup Broad Spectrum SPF 15 $69- For those of you that haven't read my blog, you may not realise it but I am very fussy when it comes to facial products. I am very picky, especially with my foundation. Since buying this foundation, I cannot complain. I love that it incorporates minerals that don't clog pores, as well as the fact that it protects you from the sun, all the while covering any blemishes on the skin. Product and image via napoleonperdis.com.

3. Yves Saint Laurent Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils Baby Doll $30 US- I don't own this item, but I have heard others swear by YSL's mascara range. Therefore, I feel inclined to try it when my I finish my own mascara. Product and image via yslbeautyus.com.

4. Bare Minerals READY Eyeshadow 2.0 $27.95- I am one that lives by the motto, "Less is more". And sometimes, we must admit that it is! I love neutral eyeshadows as they are never left unused. Whether it be for a special occasion or for a more natural approach, such shades are always suitable. Product and image via meccacosmetica.com.au.

5. Nars Blush $45- NARS, NARS, NARS! I have always been instilled with the notion that Nars does the best blushes. They offer a range of shades to suit every skin tone and occasion, though I have had the "Orgasm" shade for a year or so now, and I have never had a problem. Product and image via meccacosmetica.com.au.

6.  Napoleon Perdis Leather Brush Roll (22 Brushes) $495- A girl can only dream, right? Right. I don't think I'll be buying this product anytime soon, but I must say it would be an ideal investment. A brush set is something valuable and long lasting, and I think for now I should probably find a less expensive option! Product and image via napoleonperdis.com.

7. Lancome Star Bronzer Intense $81- Though I do not own this product, I strongly feel that bronzer is an important element to achieve a professional and realistic makeup look. This bronzer is unique as it blends rose oil and light- reflecting pigments to attain radiance. Product and image via meccacosmetica.com.au.

8. Chanel Rouge Allure- Chanel anyone? I feel that Chanel lipsticks tend to have more durability than some brands and find that their red lipsticks are to die for. They are truly the ultimate definition of luxury and will ensure your outfit is complete. Product and image via chanel.com.

There you have it, my ultimate beauty necessities. Let me know what products you think should be added to the list by leaving a comment below,
