Goodbye to 2014!

Can you believe today is the last day of 2014? Where have the days gone? It feels as though each year passes by quicker and quicker…

2014 was life changing for me. It was the year I nearly lost someone very close to me- an experience that taught me how very delicate and precious life is, as well as the importance of cherishing every moment with those you love. Though this made my year tough at times, 2014 was undoubtedly filled with good times. It was the year I turned eighteen, the year I completed VCE and the year I graduated high school- memories that I will forever hold dear.

Whatever 2014 has brought you- joy, sadness or both, let us all remember that 2015, like any New Year, holds hope. For many of us 2015 will bring us a fresh start, as well as the opportunity to reflect on our goals and aspirations. My New Year’s resolution for 2015 is to make this year my own- to put my dreams to action. What about you? What do you wish to make of 2015?

Stay safe and enjoy your celebrations of the New Year,

The Evolution of Youth

I was so proud to find out that my VCE Media work had been shortlisted for Top Designs. For those unfamiliar with Top Designs, it is an annual exhibition held in Victoria that showcases the best works in the state. Unfortunately I was unsuccessful in having my work accepted to be displayed next year. Yet for me, being shortlisted was an honour in itself.

The title of my work is ‘The Evolution of Youth’. It explores the very nature of young people as well as the fashion trends, attitudes and fads that have defined them over time. In the series of photographs I encapsulate teenagers from the 1920s to the 2010s, with the last photograph being a futuristic depiction of what is to come.

Having worked on this SAT (school assessed task) for many months, I am so pleased with the final outcome. In their physical form, each photograph has been printed on a light glossy paper of A4 size, and mounted on foam boards.

Feel free to leave a comment below to let me know what you think of ‘The Evolution of Youth’.

Melbourne Getaway

If you follow my Instagram account @_chelsealiz, you may have been wondering why I have flooded your feed with so many photographs from the Melbourne CBD. In fact, over the weekend my friend Jaimee and I stayed at the Crown Metropol; a way of celebrating the end of year twelve. It was something we had planned in advance that often motivated us through the long and tiring VCE exam period.

Day One: After checking in, Jaimee and I went for a walk to DFO South Wharf where we were amazed by the great bargains offered to us. There were kikki.K cards under $2, Windsor Smith sandals sold for $38, and even Bonds Sloppy Joe Jumpers for under $25. It was every sale- loving shopper's paradise.

Following the two hours we spent at DFO, Jaimee and I ate dinner at Cervo along Southbank, only to then go and watch the latest Hunger Games film 'Mockingjay Part 1' at Gold Class. It was a film that left us wanting more, and made us look forward to the release of the final part.

Day Two: Following an early rise, Jaimee and I began our day at the Conservatory at Crown. This is where we ate breakfast in style, with an array of food to select from. There was Asian and American cuisine, a traditional continental breakfast, and even waffles and pancakes to cater for those sweet-toothed guests.

From there, Jaimee and I spent the rest of our day shopping. We went to Melbourne Central, Culture Kings (to buy our brothers Christmas presents), The Emporium, Myer, David Jones, and H & M. Five hours later we were sore and tired from the shopping madness. Though, it does not go without saying that we were successful in our shopping venture, buying Christmas presents for our families, and even spoiling ourselves a little.

That night we had a late dinner, and went straight to bed, as we were exhausted from walking all over the Melbourne CBD.

Day Three: Like on Day Two, we started the day at the Conservatory and made the most of the buffet in front of us. We were sad that we were checking out, but grateful that we had shared such an enjoyable experience. Following breakfast we walked around the city once more, taking in the beautiful sun before our inevitable return to reality.

Made by CC.C

Returning readers will know very well how much I love individual and distinct products. In fact, when I am shopping, the thing that often determines whether I purchase a product or not, is it's uniqueness. That is why I could not help but share with you a new label called Made by CC.C, from two Melbourne sisters Chloe and Charlene.

I recently spoke to the girls about Made by CC.C and here is what they had to say.

When did you each realise that you were interested in creating art and fashion?

We sort of grew up in a creative household, everyone in the family was always into the creative arts – whether it be music, visual arts, fashion, etc. It just seemed natural for us to be interested and involved in it.

What inspires you both?

Anything! Literally. We can walk down the street and find something that inspires us – the textures of the trees or the concrete ground, the colours of the sky and the flowers or the shapes of houses or objects. I’m (Chloe) more inspired by nature and the Earth whilst Charlene is more inspired by the quirky side of things and pop culture. It’s the combination of our sources of inspiration that create our brand.

What is your vision for Made by CC.C? What things do you wish to create?

We aim to create a difference in the way people view fashion, in the sense of creating a more sustainable living. Our brand focuses on recycling materials to create products that are different and unique to what is offered in the industry today... Our ideas will just naturally come into mind as our knowledge and skills will just further develop as we go. Therefore we wish to create unique products that people can wear with an, “I made a difference in the world” attitude.

What are your hopes for the future in terms of creating?

To just keep creating things and most importantly, to stay inspired. By doing so we hope to keep surprising people with the things we create. Who knows what we will create in the next year or so!
